Johns Hopkins student kills burglar with samauri sword

According to the below linked article from the Baltimore Sun, Johns Hopkins undergrad, John Pontolillo, killed a burglar with his samauri sword. The student almost completely severed the burglar's left hand and made other lacerations on the guy's body. I've been in the area and can say that I don't remember the area being particularly nice. According to the article, the burglar had 29 prior convictions and a was a facing several weapons charges that were ultimately dropped when the arresting officer could not attend the hearing because he was deployed overseas.

What a crazy story and surreal headline.
